Leaflets have been very similar for the last 100 years.About 95% of leaflets in pharmaceutical packages are standard folded solutions with many usability issues for patients. However, there are some booklet solutions on the market for e.g. bottles which are sealed with plastic cover.However, these standard leaflets and booklets are manufactured from standard paper, not from thin bible paper. This has extremely large effect for usability and a content structure of leaflet.
There are lot of issues related to standard medical leaflets. If we think about usability issues for patients, when a leaflet is open, the size is very large, the font size is small, and the information is difficult to find. Then the most common issue is when a patient tries to put the leaflet back inside a package. The leaflet is very difficult to get back in the same format and does not match with the package.
The issues related to the pharmaceutical industry are related to the very limited printing area and this means very limited number of language versions on the same leaflet (normally 2-3 languages). This would mean that only in EU you would need to have 10-12 different language versions for one product. And in practice, this would mean that every leaflet version has own stock item number, own packaging process, own space in the warehouse. All this would mean extra logistics, working capital and warehouse costs.
Our product is unique medical leaflet - Thin Bible Paper Booklet. It is a new standard for pharmaceutical packaging which provides the outstanding experience for patients on their treatment journey, very low carbon footprint and maybe the lowest cost.
Usability of Thin Bible Paper Booklet is outstanding. It is easy to open, close, and find correct information (e.g. table of contents with page numbers and larger font size) compared to the standard leaflet. In addition, it can be tailored to customer needs and therefore the size is suitable for the current package and the content will be as needed. Because there is no folding the booklet is extremely easy to take out from package and vice versa. At the same time, it is highly environment friendly (~30 – 50% less paper weight compared to a standard leaflets) and the price is significantly lower (~20%) with high volume. Due to lower weight, a package is lighter weight, and if needed smaller in size, and transportations will have lower CO2emissions (lighter containers and less transportations). For our solution we use only FSC certificated thin bible paper.
For the same paper volume, as with the standard leaflet, it can include at least 3-4 times more information (e.g. more languages). When several languages are included, the logistics and warehouse costs will also decrease (stock item numbers and the need of warehouse space will decrease). Therefore, packaging processes will simplify.
